NXT Recap - 9/26/18; The Undisputed Suspects

The hunt for Aleister Black's attacker heats up plus Otis Dozovic of Heavy Machinery takes on NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa in non-title action!

NXT General Manager William Regal starts the show with an announcement regarding the Aleister Black investigation. Before Regal could begin his announcement he is interrupted by Undisputed Era. The group has an issue with how things are ran in NXT. Regal thinks it’s funny Undisputed Era is out here when he has an announcement implying they have something to do with it. Adam Cole quickly shifts focus saying Ricochet has been ducking him and demands a rematch. Regal accused of interfering in last week’s match because he simply wanted Dunne to soften up Ricochet. Regal gets the last laugh, in three weeks Ricochet will defend the North American Championship in a Triple Threat Match vs. Pete Dunne and Adam Cole. Not to be outdone, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong defend the NXT Tag Team Championships against the War Machine.

Backstage Johnny Gargano gives some comments about his upcoming match against Tony Nese. Johnny says he can’t be Johnny Wrestling sitting on his couch. Candace LaRae is approached by Lacey Evans who has some critiques of LaRae as a wife to Johnny. Obviously that doesn’t sit well with Candace by Johnny convinced her Lacey isn’t worth it.

Velveteen Dream implies that Tommaso Ciampa was the man who attacked Aleister Black, but The Dream is not a snitch.

Lars Sullivan was dominating in a match against some enhancement talent but he was attacked by EC3. The Top 1% got the better of the exchange by quick jabs to the jaw of Sullivan. Could the monster of NXT have a glass jaw?

Nikki Cross was in William Regal’s office demanding a rematch with Bianca Belair. She also keeps repeating, “I know..” Does she know who attacked Aleister? Regal doesn’t think she’s a credible witness.

The Mighty def. Street Profits: Excellent Tag Team match. Street Profits came in all business and really took it to The Mighty. Miller and Thorne eventually got the action in their favor in the middle and really took over when Ford got his leg trapped between the post and ring steps on the outside. The Mighty did a great job of keeping Ford from tagging Dawkins. Miller blocks Dawkins from coming in the ring while Thorne rolls Ford up with a jackknife pin. Good stuff.

Kairi Sane def. Vanessa Borne: Commentary really hammering that Borne has upped her game and it is true. I say give her a year of regular work on NXT and she could be a great addition to the main roster Women’s Division. I’m a huge fan of Kairi Sane. Her offense is hard hitting, pinpoint, and believable. Kairi gets the win with the Insane Elbow.

While Kairi is celebrating former Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler came out to invoke her rematch for the title. Kairi accepts the challenge and requests the match be at WWE Evolution. Good stuff.

Kona Reeves tried talking down to Keith Lee to which Lee lair down a challenge. Will Reeves accept?

Next week the Forgotten Sons will be in action.

Tommaso Ciampa def. Otis Dozovic: Fantastic main event. I love when unconventional challengers surprise the top guy by taking it to them. That’s exactly what Otis did. He used his obvious size advantage to really catch Ciampa off guard. Ciampa got no offense in for a good portion of the beginning. Ciampa shifted the match in his favor when he dropped Dozovic outside on the ramp. Even so Dozovic never let the match get too far away from him. Ciampa senses this and tries to bail on the match. Ciampa is stopped by Otis’ Tag Team partner Tucker Knight. Ciampa has no choice but to fight this one out. Ciampa catches Otis off guard and hits him with a draping DDT from the inside onto the apron. Otis gets to his feet but Ciampa hits him with another rope draping DDT this time to the inside of the ring for the win. Great match and a career highlight match for Otis Dozovic.
