SmackDown Live Recap - 8/21/18; New Tag Champs, Charlotte and Becky brawl!

Tonight is the final night of SummerSlam week at the Barclays Arena in Brooklyn for SmackDown Live!

Tonight's SmackDown Live kicks off with The Miz who is in the ring to mock the Daniel Bryan retirement and to announce that he has retired from ever facing Daniel Bryan after getting the win Sunday night at SummerSlam. Daniel Bryan comes out and calls The Miz a coward for the way he won Sunday. Even worse, Bryan says The Miz is a "cosplay wrestler". Maryse grabs the mic and tells Bryan he should just retire, go home, and change his name to Daniel Bella. Suddenly, Brie Bella comes running down to the ring. Maryse bails leaving The Miz all alone to take a beating from Brie then get dumped out of the ring. According to Daniel, there has been a match set for the Hell in a Cell PPV. The Miz and his wife Maryse will do battle against Bryan and Brie in a Mixed Tag Match. I personally would have loved to see Daniel vs. The Miz inside a Hell in a Cell but this will have to do.

The Miz and Maryse confront SmackDown Live GM Paige who informs the couple the match will indeed happen.

Randy Orton def. Jeff Hardy: Orton was dominating this one and even went back to trying to rip Hardy's ear clean off. A pissed off Hardy hit Orton with a low blow and the two brawled all the way to the tech area of the Barclays Arena. Hardy places Orton on a table climbs a set of road cases and delivers a Swanton Bomb through the table.

The Bar will take on Gallows and Anderson. The winner of that will presumably be in line for a shot at the SD Tag team Championships.

Peyton Royce def. Naomi thanks to Peyton's IIconic partner Billie Kay causing a distraction.

Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair get into a wild brawl.

Becky's reasons for attacking Charlotte at SummerSlam, although generic, make perfect sense. It's just hard for the crowd to hate her for it because they see where she is coming from.

Rusev and Lana def. Andrade "Cien" Almas and Zelina Vega: I actually enjoyed this match I thought it was very well done. While Lana is still ways away from being great you can tell she's working hard. Aiden English appeared out of nowhere to stop Almas from introducing a chair which allowed Rusev to lock on The Accolade for the win. I guess everything is good in the Rusev Day camp?

AJ Styles had the opportunity to explain his actions this past Sunday at SummerSlam but before he could do so Samoa Joe comes out of nowhere and puts AJ in the Coquina Clutch. Joe looks directly into the camera and tells AJ's wife Wendy that AJ won't be home to tuck the kids in tonight because he already went night night. Ouch.

Next week Carmella will get her rematch for the SD Women's Championship against Charlotte.

The New Day def. The Bludgeon Brothers to win the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships: This was a wild no DQ brawl. Everyone was all over the place. Bludgeon Brothers have things well in hand after doing damage such as smashing Kofi Kingston with an office chair. Rowan went to use one of the mallets just as the Bludgeon Brothers did this past Sunday at SummerSlam. Rowan goes charging after Kofi who is laid up against the barricade. At the last minute, Woods pulls Kofi out of harm's way and Rowan goes crashing against the barricade. Woods and Kingston incapacitate Harper and lay him out on a table in the ring. Woods lands his top rope balancing elbow drop and gets the win! Talk about a shocker! SmackDown goes off the air with the new five-time Tag Team Champions.

I enjoyed SmackDown a lot. Almas being showcased weekly makes me happy. While I didn't expect The Miz and Daniel Bryan story to go in this direction I love the crowd reaction Brie and Daniel got at the end of the segment. The main event was crazy and a lot of fun to watch. The New Day is the best Tag Team in the game if not in the top three. They consistently go out and have absolute banger matches against anyone. I can't wait to see who they will feud with against next.
