SmackDown Live Quick Hits! - 7/10/18; Final SmackDown before Extreme Rules

SmackDown Live comes to us from the SNHU Arena in Manchester, NH. Tonight we'll see AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura, Andrade "Cien" Almas vs. Sin Cara, and more!

  • SmackDown kicked off with a Miz TV segment with guests Team Hell No. As you would expect Miz used the opportunity to stir the pot between Daniel Bryan and Kane. Bryan set off a nerve in the Miz when he criticized Miz’s wrestling ability. When Kane tried to calm Bryan down, Miz quipped about Bryan hiding behind his broken down Demon. Kane when about attack Miz when the Bludgeon Brothers came down to the ring. Suddenly Sanity comes out and attacked Daniel Bryan and Kane. The New Day come down and make the save. Of course, this is to set up a 10 Man Tag Match for tonight.
  • AJ Styles def. Shinsuke Nakamura via DQ: Rusev and Aiden English were guests on commentary when they inadvertently became a part of the match. English got knocked down in a scuffle then hit with a Kinsasha meant for AJ who ducked out of the way. Rusev took exception to his buddy getting attacked so he stopped AJ from hitting the Phenomenal Forearm so the referee calls for the bell. Rusev and Shinsuke attack AJ when US Champion Jeff Hardy runs down to even the odds. SmackDown GM Paige calls for the match to be restarted as a Tag Team match.
  • Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura def. Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles: I really enjoyed the setup of the match. Jeff hit Rusev with a Twist of Fate Stunner laying Rusev out quite a far distance from the corner. Jeff goes to the top seemingly for a Swanton Bomb when Shinsuke knocks Hardy’s balance off causing Jeff to straddle the corner then go straight down. Rusev hits Hardy with a Machka Kick as Jeff tries to come to and gets the win. A good way to head into Extreme Rules.
  • Asuka def. James Ellsworth in a Lumberjack Match: Ellsworth got no offense in. The Lumberjacks on the outside all started brawling with each other. Asuka does a huge dive to the outside onto all of the Lumberjacks. Carmella passed Ellsworth a small canister of hairspray I’m guessing. Ellsworth can’t even cheat right as Asuka washes him with strikes before he can use the spray. Asuka strikes Ellsworth sending him into Carmella who was on the apron. Asuka locks in the Asuka Lock on Ellsworth and he taps. Carmella attacks Asuka before she could celebrate her win thanks to Ellsworth getting that hairspray to actually work. Who says intergender wrestling isn’t believable?
  • For Extreme Rules, James Ellsworth will be high above the ring in a shark cage during the SmackDown Women’s Championship Match.
  • Andrade “Cien” Almas def. Sin Cara: This was probably the best Sin Cara Match I’ve ever seen. A total Lucha style match complete with a corner Destroyer. Eventually, Almas won with the running double knees in the corner. Again a great match. Wishful thinking would be hoping for building to a program between the two.
  • Team Hell No and The New Day def. Sanity and Bludgeon Brothers: This one pretty much as you would expect with these parties involved. The offense built to a fast pace where all ten men got moves in. The finish came when Daniel Bryan hit Eric Young with the Running Knee to get the win. To close out SmackDown Daniel Bryan tried to set off pyro the way Kane used to but there is no longer pyro in WWE! Or is there? After the third attempt pyro actually goes off! Kane is in shock!

Overall, I thought this was the better show of the two. Heavy on the wrestling means the show feels like a breeze to get through. Extreme Rules is stacked, this was a good way to get people ready. What did you think of the show?
