RAW Quick Hits - 7/16/18; Will Brock Be Stripped of the Title?

Sunday, RAW GM Kurt Angle announced that if Brock Lesnar does not accept an opponent named last night on RAW he would be stripped of the Universal Championship. What will Brock, or in this case his advocate Paul Heyman, to keep the Universal Championship around the waist of "The Beast Incarnate"?

Raw GM Kurt Angle was not bluffing when he said he would strip Brock Lesnar of the Universal Championship if he did not accept an opponent for a match at SummerSlam. Brock’s advocate tried using the idea of Brock being a potential two sport champion (WWE and UFC) as a bargaining chip to no avail. So now what’s left is finding an opponent for Brock. A total of SIX Superstars make their way to the ring each with viable claims as to why they should be the #1 Contender for the Universal Championship. Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins, Elias, Finn Balor, and Roman Reigns all want a shot. Angle decides to make two Triple Threat matches for tonight. The winner of each Triple Threat will face each other next week, that winner will be declared the #1 Contender and will face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam for the Universal Championship.

The funniest thing to me about this segment is that the crowd wanted the belt off Lesnar so badly that when Lashley was the first to come out he got massive cheers. By the time Roman, the last man to come down to the ring, came out the crowd gave Roman their usual shower of boos. The crowd wants the belt off Lesnar they’ll cheer anyone. But when Roman came out they booed him because they had other options. What would have been their reaction if he came out first?

Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns vs. Finn Balor

Really good Triple Threat Match. It was hard to tell who was going to actually win even with the predictable moment where Drew pulled Finn after the Coup de Grace. In the end after a ton of Superman Punches and a Spear to Balor, Roman Reigns wins. He’s one match away from another shot at Brock.

Bobby Roode challenged Dolph Ziggler to a match to which the Intercontinental Champion agreed to, just not for the belt. He lost. Good guy Bobby Roode is just so boring to me. Give me the jerk Bobby Roode who thinks he’s better than everyone.

Mojo Rawley pinned Tyler Breeze after a corner knock out punch followed by an Alabama Slam.

Bayley and Sasha Banks were forced to team in a match versus Dana Brooke and Alicia Fox. The match ended in DQ when Sasha wouldn’t answer the referee’s count. Sasha’s logic is no one beats up Bayley but her. Because she loves Bayley. I’m so confused.

B Team pinned The Ascension

Alexa Bliss came out with Mickie James to gloat about her win last night against Nia Jax. Alexa believes she can beat any woman in the locker room. The crowd begins to chant for Ronda Rousey which Alexa acknowledges and says Ronda doesn’t count because she is suspended. Suddenly Ronda begins walking through the crowd while Alexa tries making a getaway. By the time Alexa and Mickie get to the top of the ramp Ronda is there to greet them. They all bolt for the ring when Ronda gets her hands on Mickie James first taking her out with that spinning fireman’s carry. While officials and Alexa are helping Mickie to the back Ronda goes after Bliss and drags her to the ring. Ronda goes to lock in an arm bar Kurt Angle intervenes. He tries to reason with Ronda until Constable Corbin comes out and demands Angle put his foot down. Angle reluctantly agrees and tacts on another week to Ronda’s suspension. If she can do the week she gets Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam for the Raw Women’s Championship.

Sarah Logan defeated Ember Moon. Her first win ever on Raw and I’m pretty sure in WWE all together.

Bobby Lashley vs. Seth Rollins vs. Elias: Very good match. I especially enjoyed the slow build to an action packed closing. We get another wonderful performance from Rollins who at this point can get a good match out of anyone, Lashley slowly seeming to win the crowd over, and Elias playing the part of evil spoiler. Lashley gets the win with a spear to Elias. A rematch from Extreme Rules. Raw ends with Lashley celebrating his victory.

I enjoyed this Raw despite some weird moments (Sasha and Bayley) because there was some decent wrestling on tonight’s show. I may not have liked the winners of the respective Triple Threat matches but I’ll never complain about a contender actually earning his spot with a string of victories.
