SmackDown Live Quick Hits! - 6/5/18; The Power of....Pancakes?

SmackDown is live from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, TX. A contract signing between AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura for their Last Man Standing match at Money in the Bank will be overseen by GM Paige.

SmackDown starts with Carmella coming out to reveal the real Asuka. In reality, it was just a video package showing Asuka not being as dominant since losing to Charlotte at WrestleMania. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, who were apart of the video package, make an appearance demanding a match with Asuka. This draws out SmackDown GM Paige who gives Asuka the opportunity to choose her opponent to which she asks for both. That's badass.

Asuka def. Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose in a 2 on 1 Handicap Match

This was a great match on both fronts. Asuka has always been great in the ring, no surprise there. Mandy Rose keeps getting better which is great, the Women's Division can never have too much talent. Which brings me to Sonya Deville. Something about her screams "BIG STAR!" to me. She has a great look, cool background...she's pretty much just as badass as Asuka. I really can see her being considered for a bigger role on her own in the future.

Karl Anderson beating Luke Harper is this week's "Wait, really?"

Naomi and Jimmy Uso def. Lana and Aiden English

This was a fun match with a lot of fun spots. Nothing too crazy but something to keep the crowd hot.

I love the thought of having this backstage instead of in the ring. Oh hey! Adam Pierce and Dean Malenko are here too! Now it's serious business. Shinsuke is up to his old head tricks complaining about the pens available to sign the contract. This gets under the skin of WWE Champion AJ Styles who smacks Shinsuke right in the face. Shinsuke had a pen of his own all along. Talk about getting in your opponent's head.

These ladies put on an absolutely incredible match tonight. Great mat wrestling, counter for counter, high-risk spots, all around great stuff. I particularly enjoyed the ending sequence with Becky down and prime for the Figure 8, she kept fighting and when it looked as though Charlotte ready to lock the Figure 8 back in, Becky counters into the Disarmer submission. Charlotte taps. Huge win for Becky going into Money in the Bank.

Big Cass is out here talking and I'm just like...

The main event of New Day against Samoa Joe, Rusev, and The Miz was another great performance by all involved. Miz promised a Skull Crushing Finale but that didn't work out so well for him. An errant throw of a plate of pancakes by The Miz leads to a Macha Kick from Rusev and Senton from Samoa Joe. New Day takes advantage and drops Miz with the Midnight Hour finisher for good measure and get the win to close out SmackDown.

A very enjoyable episode with a couple good matches worth checking out. What did you think of tonight's SmackDown Live? Comment below or reach out to us on Social Media:
