NXT Recap - 8/9/17

Drew McIntyre and NXT Champion Bobby Roode come face to face in the ring plus the debut of Street Profits!

Tonight NXT begins with Sanity ambushing the NXT Tag Team Champions Authors of Pain. Alexander Wolfe, Killian Dain, and Nikki Cross call out the team and as they make their way down to the ring one of them is jumped from behind by a returning Eric Young. The AOP member is in the ring getting a beat down from Dain and Wolfe. On the outside, Eric Young is zip tying one AOP member to the guardrail. He is able to rip the guardrail from the floor but still isn't able to fight off Sanity. We've definitely never seen the Authors of Pain in this way before.

Metro Brothers vs. Street Profits

This is the highly anticipated debut of Street Profits, a tag team consisting of NXT veteran Angelo Dawkins and newcomer Montez Ford. This is also the TV debut of the Metro Brothers. If you need a visual of who the Metro Brothers just think of a younger version of former SmackDpwn Tag Team Champions Duece and Domino. As for the match, I wasn't impressed on either end.

We see footage of Hideo Itami and Aleister Black getting into an altercation outside the Full Sail Arena. Subsequently, NXT GM William Regal has made a match for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn between Itami and Black.

There is a face to face encounter between TakeOver opponents Drew McIntyre and NXT Champion Bobby Roode. The Champion Roode is flanked by security to protect him from Roderick Strong who he calls "a madman". Roode welcomes McIntyre back to WWE. Roode says while McIntyre felt entitled during his first run in WWE, Bobby Roode IS entitled to what he wants. This is Bobby Roode's NXT. Drew was christened "The Chosen One" back in the day but Roode didn't need to be chosen, he is The One. McIntyre is baffled Roode actually believes what he says but Drew says come Brooklyn Roode will be looking at the new NXT Champion. Roderick Strong interrupts the situation still looking for a piece of Bobby Roode. Roddy doesn't want to fight for the title, he wants this fight for respect. NXT GM William Regal objects at first but Roode says to make the fight. Roode even agrees to put his title on the line...if Strong can beat Drew McIntyre. After some coercing Regal makes the match with some alterations. McIntyre and Strong will do battle next week and if Strong wins he will Roode after Brooklyn. While the original TakeOver match stays intact, McIntyre will be facing Roode just four days after he has to face Roderick Strong.

Johnny Gargano wants a match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn.

Oney Lorcan vs. Danny Birch

Another fantastic match in this budding rivalry filled with chain wrestling and stiff strikes. This time Birch catches Lorcan by surprise winning the match with a roll up.

No Way Jose vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas (w/ Selina Vega)

This is the first time Vega has accompanied Almas during a match and she definitely showed she is a valuable asset. In the early stages of the match, Almas maintained his nonchalant attitude which has been his downfall in the past. Vega finally gets through with some sense to Almas and he takes the fight to Jose. Almas attempts a nonchalant cover and Vega makes Almas put him away. He hits a Hammerlock DDT for the win.

As Vega and Almas walk up the ramp, Vega walks over to the commentary table and grabs the mic. Vega says at TakeOver if Johnny Gargano wants a match, he's got one.
