SmackDown Live Recap - 6/27/17; MITB Do Over

Tonight we get a do over and for the first time ever on WWE TV, there will be a Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

Daniel Bryan kicks off the show going through some of the matches we will see tonight. Bryan is interrupted by the original Women's Money in the Bank winner Carmella and her lackey James Ellsworth. Carmella brings up valid points saying the MITB match is no disqualification so how can she be punished for breaking rules if there are none? Bryan says even though there are no rules James Ellsworth is technically not a Superstar. James gets a couple verbal shot in on Daniel, bringing to light he can no longer compete so for that James is not only barred from ringside, he's barred from the arena! Security carries James out kicking and screaming.

The Usos vs. Hype Bros

The story here is if the Hype Bros can come away with the win they get a Tag Team Title shot against the Champions The Usos. The match itself wasn't anything crazy to note, pretty standard. The Usos win with a splash off the top. After the match, the New Day challenges Usos to a Tag Team Title match at the Battleground PPV which they accept.

The Ascension didn't attack Tyler Breeze but they do love them some Eddie Money.

Naomi (c) vs. Lana - Women's Championship Match

This one was over in about three minutes. Lana was smart and attacked Naomi during the prematch introductions but the strategy didn't last long as Naomi got the upper hand and was able to hit a split legged moonsault for the win. I wonder what was the creative thought process behind this one.

Aiden English is in the ring but is quickly disposed of by "The Viper" Randy Orton. The former Champion hijacks the show and says he isn't going anywhere until he gets a rematch against Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship. Randy doesn't care if it is in the back, at a house show, or in the airport if Randy crosses paths with Jinder he is going to beat the holy hell out of him. Commissioner Shane McMahon comes down to the ring and lets Randy know hijacking the show isn't the way to go about things. Also, there was once a time where Randy and Shane did battle because Randy attacked one of Shane's family members. Shane somewhat empathizes with Randy which is why he is going to grant him another rematch at the Battleground PPV. However in the interest of fairness Jinder will be the one to pick a stipulation for the match. The WWE Champion Jinder Mahal comes out and announces that their match will take place in a Punjabi Prison Match. Need a refresher on what the Punjabi Prison Match is? Here you go:

Next week on the Fourth of July there will be a Battle Royale and the winner will become the #1 Contender for the US Championship. AJ Styles is definitely in that one.

Maria Kanellis and Mike Benn....Kanellis come out but before they can say anything substantial they are interrupted by Sami Zayn who's ready for his match.

Sami Zayn vs. Baron Corbin

Really great match. These two have great chemistry coupled with Sami's genius like ability to make bigger men look like a million bucks against him. Baron hits Sami with a straight jab he was never really able to recover from. Sami comes off the top rope ducking a run in from Baron but Corbin catches Sami running in with an End of Days for the win.

Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match

This blew the actual MITB Ladder Match on the PPV out of the water. These ladies went out there and tore the house down. It was as if they all went out there with no fear or reservation and did WORK. Multiple ladder spots that kept you on the edge of your seat, stiff shots, the whole nine. This would have been amazing to see on the actual PPV but either way, these ladies deserve the highest of praises. Well done.
