RAW Recap - 5/8/17; Live from London!

Raw opens with Dean Ambrose coming down to the ring before he gets a call from Kurt Angle. Apparently Angle gave the go ahead for a major announcement which Ambrose is going to deliver himself.

Due to Raw being in London and Angle unable to make the trip the GM has put Dean Ambrose in charge tonight. The Miz comes out with an announcement of his own, Commissioner Stephanie McMahon has appointed The Miz co-GM. While the co-GMs bicker Braun Strowman makes his way down to the ring. Strowman is wearing an arm sling still suffering from the aftermath of his Payback match with Roman Reigns. Braun says that he plans on fulfilling his vow to end Roman Reigns when his arm is healed. Braun already has bigger goals in mind, namely Brock Lesnar and the Universal Championship. Kalisto decides that now would be a good time to confront Braun over the beating Braun gave Kalisto after their Dumpster Match. Co-GM Ambrose makes a match for tonight, the one armed Braun Strowman vs. Kalisto. Ambrose isn't done there as coming up next we have The Miz taking on Finn Balor.

The Miz vs. Finn Balor

The offense is all Finn Balor to start. After a roll out dropkick, Finn rifles off quick strikes. He goes to the top perhaps to strike with Coupe de Grace but Maryse alerts her husband and he rolls out of the ring. Balor stays hot on Miz's trail and hits him with a shotgun dropkick sending Miz into the barricade before we go to break. When we come back from break Miz is on top thanks to a distraction from Maryse. Finn counters a Skull Crushing Finale into a roll up for a two count. Finn tries to fight back but is halted by Miz. Finn tries fighting back again. Miz stops his momentum with a boot to Balor's face to which Finn answers with a Pele kick. Both men battle with Balor getting the better of the exchange on the outside. Action back inside with Miz begging for mercy. Maryse gets on the apron distracting Balor allowing Miz to send Balor into the referee. Miz rolls out of the ring and grabs the mic. Miz says as acting GM he is disqualifying Finn Balor for striking the referee. As he makes his way up the ramp co-GM Ambrose comes out and uses his veto power to restart the match. Finn hits an unsuspecting Miz with a Slinglade then Coupe de Grace for win.

Raw Women's Champion Alexa Bliss is getting ready for her match against Mickie James when she is confronted by Nia Jax who asks Bliss if she meant what she said by calling Nia "good". Of course Alexa isn't going to deny that so Nia says if she is so good then after Bayley, Nia wants a shot at the title. Bliss informs Jax she isn't the one to make the match, Angle is, but she'll pass the word along. Nia says until she does, Bliss has a new best friend.

Alexa Bliss vs. Mickie James

Bliss needs a finisher she can hit in situations when she needs a quick pin.

Ambrose and Miz bicker some more backstage, this time over MizTV getting cut on the show. To get back at Ambrose Miz puts Dean in a match against Bray Wyatt.

Samoa Joe has a few choice words for Seth Rollins before both men begin brawling backstage.

Braun Strowman vs. Kalisto

Before the match Braun said he wasn't competing due to injury yet he calls out Roman Reigns. The referee calls for the bell and Strowman changes his mind and beats down Kalisto. Roman Reigns is here. Strowman and Reigns have a stare down before Reigns goes on the attack. Roman drops Strowman with three Superman punches and the brawl spills outside. Roman goes in for the kill and Braun stops him with a boot. Roman fights back and ultimately gets the upper hand. Roman attacks the injured shoulder of Strowman with a steel chair and bashing it into the ring post. Loved this brawl, it came off really well.

Before the break Goldust gives a pep talk to his partner R-Truth before their #1 Contender Tag Team Turmoil match. This segment actually has me rooting for Golden Truth!

Tag Team Turmoil Match

What a showing from Cesaro and Sheamus.

Seth Rollins vs. Samoa Joe

Both men come out slugging with Joe coming out on top in the exchange. Rollins on offense after a Slingblade but the comeback gets halted quickly. It's straight back and forth here until Joe wraps Rollins knee around the ropes and drops him out of the ring. Back from break with Joe beating down Rollins. Joe goes to pull Rollins off the ropes but Rollins lands on his feet. Joe locks on the Coquina Clutch but Rollins counters with a Stunner. Rollins hits Joe with a Springboard clothesline. This is nuts. Both men know each other so well that they are just matching each other move for move. During an exchange in the corner Rollins pulls off the turnbuckle cover exposing the steel buckle. Joe takes advantage and tosses Rollins into the buckle in front of the referee. Samoa Joe gets disqualified but at this point I doubt he cares. Joe shoves Rollins into the buckle two more times before locking on the Coquina Clutch.

Next week The Miz will take on Dean Ambrose for the Intercontinental Championship.

Cruiserweight Champion Neville on commentary for the next match.

Jack Gallagher vs. TJP

Both men have a dab off before Gallagher cracks TJP with a headbutt for a two count. Action outside for a second where TJP gets the upper hand on offense. After Gallagher escapes a Butterfly Lock both men go back and forth. TJP rolls Gallagher up with a handful of tights and gets the cheap win. After the match TJP puts Gallagher in a Kneebar until Austin Aries makes the save.

Sasha Banks vs. Alicia Fox

The Miz is on commentary.

Bray Wyatt vs. Dean Ambrose

After both men lock up Bray takes control of the offense. Ambrose has a brief comeback that gets stopped thanks to a hanging Suplex from the apron to the outside. Back from break and Wyatt is still on offense. Every comeback from Ambrose gets halted by Wyatt. Bray attempts a Denton and misses allowing Ambrose to finally get some offense in. Ambrose comes flying off the top crashing into Bray on the outside. Action is back in the ring when The Miz decides to make his way down to the ring. The presence of Miz serves as a distraction for Ambrose allowing Bray to continue the offense. Ambrose comes off the top but gets blocked by Bray. Ambrose hits the Lunatic Lariat off the rebound. Outside Miz gloats with Ambrose's Intercontinental Championship. Ambrose ducks a clothesline from Bray then suicide dives into Miz. Miz and Ambrose brawl outside where Miz strikes Ambrose with the Intercontinental Championship belt. Ambrose gets rolled back into the ring right into a Sister Abigail from Bray Wyatt. Bray gets the win.

After the match Miz assaults Ambrose then cuts a promo for their match next week. Should be a good match.

Overall I thought this was a good edition of Raw. Good to see the Intercontinental Championship getting some main event shine. However it is another week we forget the Universal Title exists and who it belongs to. This is how part time Champions, one who currently could not be bothered for a month, do more harm than good. Braun and Roman is intriguing now that Braun has a legit weakness.
