NXT Recap #391 - 5/10/17

Tonight on NXT Aleister Black is in action plus Roderick Strong and Hideo Itami, the winner will be the #1 Contender for the NXT Championship.

Aleister Black vs. Cezar Bononi

Great bout featuring heavy strikes from both men, obviously with Black getting the better of the exchanges. Bonani has his back turned to Black and when he turns around he gets Black Mass straight to the face. Aleister Black picks up the win. He is easily my favorite is all of WWE right now. Mysterious with an arsenal of offense that can never get stale.

Looks like Ember Moon won't be competing at NXT TakeOver: Chicago due to a Grade 1 shoulder sprain. The match will now be a triple threat between Sanity's Nikki Cross, Ruby Riot, and Women's Champion Asuka.

Another match to look forward to is Tyler Bate defending the U.K. Championship against Pete Dunne.

Nikki Cross is a couple fries short of a Happy Meal, if you get what I mean.

Looks like Drew McIntyre was introduced to Wesley Blake.

DIY are in the ring demanding a fair Tag Team Title match against the Authors of Pain. Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss and for some reason they think they're owed a shot. DIY disposes of them and we have a match.

DIY vs. Sabbatelli and Moss

The beginning of the match see Moss and Sabbatelli completely dominant, working over Ciampa really good. Campaign reverses a Suplex into one of his own then gets the desperate tag to Gargano. He cleans house till Sabbatelli can come in and break up a pin attempt. Ciampa reenters to allow Gargano to go out with a suicide dive. DIY roll Moss back in and hit him with Meet Me in the Middle for the win.

After the match William Regal comes out to seemingly grant DIY their Title request. Before he could do so Authors of Pain come out. Paul Ellering tells Regal if he grants this match DIY's blood is on Regal's hands. That's a risk Regal is willing to take. The match is set for NXT TakeOver: Chicago. Oh, and it will be a ladder match.

Looks like next week we will see Kassius Ohno take on Andrade "Cien" Almas.

Roderick Strong vs. Hideo Itami #1 Contender's Match for the NXT Championship

Both men grapple to stalemate multiple times. When the time comes for striking both men match each other move for move. Roddy goes to the outside for a breather. Back from break with both competitors battling. Neither Itami or Strong have gotten the upper hand. After Itami hits Strong with a kick to the sternum he takes control of the match. Itami is throwing body shots that ring throughout Full Sail Arena. Strong catches Itami and takes control of the match. Vicious backbreaker for a One count from Strong who transitions into an armbar on Itami's surgically repaired shoulder. Itami tries to escape and Strong turns it into a pump handle backbreaker. Itami attempts to change the momentum but gets hit with a nice dropkick from Strong. Looks like Roddy is looking to keep things on the ground and attack itami's arm. Itami gets some space sending Strong to the outside. Itami jumps from the apron into the arms of Roddy who tosses Itami into the ring apron. Back from a quick break with Strong once again controlling the action. A misstep from Strong leads to a double clothesline. Itami first one up strikes with fury capping it off with a Suplex. Itami goes for the pin after a springboard clothesline but gets a one. Strong breaks out an Angle Slam for a two count. Both men trade strikes ending with a backbreaker from Strong for a two count. Strong was looking for a double knee gut buster from the top but Itami fights it off and hits an Avalanche Falcon Arrow for two. Both me. Back to stiff striking one another. Strong hits a jumping knee strike for a two. Itami is able to hit a jumping knee of his own running off the ropes. Itami attempts a GTS but Strong fights off Itami's shoulders and to the corner. Strong can't get a breather as Itami comes running in with a straight kick to the face. Itami then lands a hesitation dropkick and it looks as though the end is coming for Roderick Strong. Roddy gets to his feet pushing Itami in almost an act of bravado. Strong throws a punch, Itami ducks and hoists Strong up on his shoulders. Itami hits the GTS and picks up the win. Hideo Itami is the new #1 Contender for the NXT Championship.

Fantastic back and forth bout with super stiff strikes. Exactly what you would expect from these two world class athletes. NXT ends with both men thanking each other for the hard fought match.
