RAW Recap - 3/20/17; Goodbye Mick Foley

We are just thirteen days away from WrestleMania. What will be Mick Foley's punishment for attacking Triple H last week?

The show kicks off with Mick Foley coming down to the ring. Foley reads a prepared statement apologizing for his actions against Triple H last week. Foley thinks it is best to keep the focus on WrestleMania so effectively immediately Mick Foley will be taking a hiatus from his General Manager post. Or will he? Foley takes exception to having to come down to the read a statement on index cards handed to him by Triple H. He is Mick freakin' Foley! As Foley begins to rant his microphone mysteriously starts to cut out just in time for Stephanie McMahon to make her way down to the ring. A pissed off Stephanie tells Foley that the reason they were forced to give him cards to read off of is because he constantly screws things up. They even throw Foley a life line and he still cannot get that right. Foley going on hiatus? No. Stephanie McMahon fires Mick Foley! Sami Zayn comes down to the ring to defend his mentor and be the one person to stand up to Stephanie. Sami criticizes Stephanie not only for the job she has done but for the type of person she is. Samoa Joe enters obviously a backup for Stephanie. She once again gives Mick the boot and makes a match for right now, Zayn vs. Joe. Before the bell could even ring Zayn leaps out of the ring and hits Joe with a tope.

Sami Zayn vs. Samoa Joe

This match had a ton of great moments which really kept the crowd invested. Samoa Joe seems to be extra motivated since coming up to the main roster. Everything Joe does has a focused intent behind it, usually the intent is to inflict as much pain as possible. Joe throws caution out the window and hits Sami with a dive through the middle ropes. Great nine counts for both men adding to the suspense and who doesn't love a Thread the Needle DDT from Sami? Best part was the end when Joe locks on the Coquina Clutch for the submission win. Eyes rolled in the back of his head ala Yuji Nagata, I love Samoa Joe.

Mick Foley is doing his exit walk backstage where many of the Superstars are able to say their thank yous and goodbyes. Bayley was the last to say goodbye but the moment was short lived thanks to Triple H who was waiting to say.....Have a nice day! What a jerk.

Michael Cole spoke with Dr. Wilk, the physical therapist working with Seth Rollins as he rehabs his leg injury. Dr Wilk says that while Seth is a highly driven athlete Dr. Wilk doesn't see Seth ready in thirteen days for WrestleMania. If Seth does make it Dr. Wilk fears he'll be seeing Seth the very next day. Triple H to respond later tonight.

Charlotte Flair vs. Dana Brooke

This match is a result of Dana Brooke snapping on Charlotte last week after Dana had enough of Charlotte's verbal abuse. Dana really took control of this fight right from the bell and looked the best I've seen her in a long time. Was she great? No, and the crowd really let her know it. However I see progress and that's what matters at the moment. Toward the end the ring work got a little sketchy and the match came to a quick end after a big boot from Charlotte.

Back from break and Bayley decides to have a word with Stephanie. Bayley says she used to look up to Stephanie as a kid because she was a strong woman but ever since she has came to the main roster all she has seen is Stephanie use her power to hurt people. Stephanie takes exception to the comment and in retaliation Stephanie puts Bayley in a No DQ match against Nia Jax. Should Jax win tonight she gets inserted into the Raw Women's Title match at WrestleMania and the match becomes a Fatal 4-Way.

Time for a Highlight Reel segment where Jericho promises to expose the "real" Kevin Owens. Turns out Jericho had two pieces of evidence to support his claim. First a picture of 16 year old Kevin Owens in his basement doing the old school Y2J pose in a Y2J shirt standing next to a Y2J poster. As Jericho put it, HE WAS MARKING OUT MAAAAAAN! Second, and old Twitter DM from Kevin asking Y2J for some advice shortly after Kevin was signed to the WWE. Jericho speaks on their upcoming match at WrestleMania then goes to add Jericho to The List but Samoa Joe creepily makes his way down to the ring. Suddenly Kevin Owens appears and beats Jericho down. He drops Jericho with a Popup Powerbomb then rips up The List to add insult to injury. What is the relationship between Owens and Samoa Joe?

Brian Kendrick and TJ Perkins had a meaningless match which saw Kendrick get the win with Slice Bread #2. After the match it is revealed Tozawa isn't in the US because he "misplaced" his passport. Luckily one of his fellow Superstar coworkers picked it up for him. The good Samaritan? Brian Kendrick. Oh wait....

Pretty sweet video package for Goldberg vs. Lesnar at WrestleMania.

Stephanie continues her World Tour of Evil putting Cesaro and Sheamus in a 4 on 2 Handicap Match against Gallows, Anderson, Enzo, and Big Cass. If Cesaro and Sheamus lose tonight they lose their spot in the Raw Tag Team Title match at WrestleMania.

Bayley vs. Nia Jax

This match was as one sided as you could make a match with Nia Jax completely destroying Bayley. Looks like Nia has punched her ticket to WrestleMania and do battle in a Fatal 4-Way for the Raw Women's Championship

Michael Cole sat down with Triple H do get his thoughts on Dr. Wilk's assessment on Seth Rollins' injury. Triple H basically spent the entire time trashing Seth. Here is what you need to know: If Seth Rollins wants to fight Triple H at WrestleMania is sign a contract saying that this match is not sanctioned by the WWE This clause would not make WWE or any of it's higher ups (Triple H and Stephanie McMahon) liable for any damage Rollins suffers at the hands of Triple H. Wow.

The 4 on 2 Handicap match barely got passed the opening bell when Gallows and Anderson jump Enzo and Cass presumably for making fun of them for being bald. Cesaro and Sheamus take advantage of the scuffle and hit Anderson with an assisted Brogue Kick for the win. Cesaro and Sheamus' spot at WrestleMania is safe.

Austin Aries vs. Tony Nese

fun match which saw Nese be dominant in the beginning but one mistake led to Aries taking control and really keeping the crowd into the match. Aries wins with a Disqus "Fivearm". After the match Neville comes out and both men cut some entertaining promos on each other. I hope this match is on the main card, Aries and Neville can tear the house down.

Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman

I think what is often overlooked is the great chemistry between Braun and Roman. Very few two men can brawl and tell a great story like these two and that's what we got here. Braun controlled about 75% of the match and the offense that Roman did get in was at the surprise of Braun. Roman got off a couple Superman punches and when it looked like Roman hand things well in hand the familar Gong of The Undertaker sounds and the lights go out. When they turn back on The Undertaker is standing in the middle of the ring! He and Roman stare each other down before The Undertaker chokeslams Braun and sends him out of the ring. Now here is where things get interesting for those who paid attention. After the chokeslam The Undertaker had a grimaced expression on his face before turning into a Spear from Reigns. AS Roman made his way up the ramp Undertaker did his classic sit up and pose to close the show.

I really enjoyed this Raw and much of the story progression just thirteen days away from WrestleMania. Remember when everyone was clamoring that there is too much Stephanie/Triple H on TV? Fast forward nine months and they have one of the most compelling stories going into Mania for the Raw side.

Sidenote: There will not be a Raw recap next week, the final Raw before WrestleMania, as I will be attending that Raw live.
