Raw Recap - 1/16/17

Sheamus and Cesaro defend the Raw Tag Team Titles and Brock Lesnar returns after his devastating loss at Survivor Series!

The show begins with the former United States Champion Roman Reigns who is out to talk about his upcoming match against Universal Champion Kevin Owens. He is interrupted by the Advocate for Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman then Owens and Chris Jericho. Both antagonize Roman who has his sights on main eventing WrestleMania which draws out Seth Rollins who also has plans on main event the big one. They are joined by Braun Strowman. Just when things look like the couldn't get crazier here comes "The Beast" Brock Lesnar. Before Brock can make it to the apron Sami Zayn comes out of nowhere and attacks Braun! Chaos ensues ending with Braun catching a spear from Roman, a knee from Rollins, and a Helluva Kick from Zayn. Brock enters the ring and cleans house. Roman strikes with a Superman Punch but Brock comes to before Roman can realize it. Brock hoists Roman up and drops him with a sick F-5! Madness.

Rusev and Jinder Mahal vs Enzo and Big Cass

Pretty basic match until Cass came in with the hot tag. A nice pin break up kept the crowd hot for the end which saw Enzo and Cass pick up the win with the assisted splash. (I refuse to call it that ridiculous name)

Ariya Daivari vs. Lince Dorado

Jack Gallagher was on commentary scouting his opponent Daivari for their upcoming "I Forfeit" Match. Nothing major to note with this one. Daivari wins with a Crossface/Cobra Clutch variation. Pretty neat.

Nice little video recap of the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament. Check out the recaps! NIGHT ONE and NIGHT TWO.

We get video footage of Nia Jax attacking Sasha Banks during an in ring evaluation for her injured ankle.

Cesaro and Sheamus (c) vs. Gallows and Anderson for the Raw Tag Team Championships

Great match. Very physical offense from both teams. Sheamus and Cesaro are working well together using quick tag team offense. Gallows and Anderson do a good job of bringing the fight back and keeping their opponents in their corner. Cesaro comes off a crazy hot tag and the crowd goes nuts. Anderson gets the upper hand on Cesaro and goes for a pin but Sheamus breaks it up. Sheamus cuts off Gallows then clocks Anderson with a gnarly forearm. Sheamus is so hot he inadvertently strikes the referee! Gallows and Anderson sneak up and hit Magic Killer! A second referee comes down and counts to three! Gallows and Anderson are the NEW Tag Team Champions!

The original referee comes to and makes the announcement that Gallows and Anderson win but it's via disqualification which means the titles can't change hands. Gallows and Anderson are pissed and take their anger out on Sheamus with a Magic Killer.

Rich Swann and Tony were set to do battle but Neville came through the crowd and attacked Swann from behind. Nese thought it was a good idea to lay some shots in but Neville pulls him off. When Nese doesn't listen Neville dumps him out and finishes his assault on Swann.

Sami Zayn is in the locker room with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. I'm thinking the three are teaming in a match later tonight and poor Sami thinks he's reforming The Shield.

The New Day come out to talk about their chances of winning the Royal Rumble. According to them if one member of the New Day win the Royal Rumble, they all win the Royal Rumble! Titus O'Neil for another hilarious roasting session courtesy of The New Day. Titus has a proposition for The New Day, he faces one of them and if he wins he earns the spot of the man he beats in the Royal Rumble.

Titus O'Neil vs. Big E

At one point I thought Titus was going to pull this off after hitting a Dominator on Big E but he only got a two count. Titus had Big E in an abdominal stretch and began smacking him in the rear mocking him. I think this might of woke Big E up as he starts a comeback that ends with The Big Ending. Big E gets the win and all three spots for The New Day in the Royal Rumble are safe.

Raw Women's Champion Charlotte graces us with her presence. Her reason to be out here to tonight is to essentially make fun of Bayley for being a lifelong WWE fan. Bayley used to write poems about her aspirations to become a WWE Superstar. Bayley, fed up with being put down, comes to the ring to defend herself. She drops three poems off the top of her head all ending with her becoming the new WWE Raw Women's Champion after the Royal Rumble.

Brian Kendrick vs. Cedric Alexander

Pretty fun hard hitting match. Cedric seems laser focused without Alicia Fox at ringside. I spoke too sound as Alicia comes down to the ring to cheer on Cedric. When he realizes she is out there he wants nothing to do with her. Cedric hits Kendrick with the Lumbar Check for the win. Alicia gets in the ring to celebrate. Cedric seems to let bygones be bygones but ducks a hug from Alicia making her look like a goof in the ring. Crazy psycho Alicia Fox comes out backstage and it is a joy to watch.

Kurt Angle is the first inductee in the 2017 WWE Hall of Fame! Kurt is coming home baby!

Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, and Braun Strowman

Really fun main event in front of a hot crowd. Chaos began before the bell even rang. I enjoyed this match because of the even pace. It stayed a bit slow in the beginning with the bad guys working over the smaller Zayn. Once Sami gets the hot tag to Roman he match goes into overdrive. Seth softens up Braun then Sami comes in to try and take him down. Rollins neutralizes Owens and Jericho diving to the outside while Zayn hits an incredible high cross body off the top rope but only getting him a two count to the roar of the crowd. With everyone wiped out this leaves Braun and Sami. Braun gets the upper hand and hits Zayn with a running Powerslam for the win. Again a great main event worth the watch.

After the match Strowman takes Zayn's limp boy and drags him to the top of the stage near the commentary area. Roman and Seth stop Strowman from doing any damage and set Braun up for a Shield Powerbomb through the announce table. Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho break up the attempt and begin to brawl with Rollins. Jericho get dropped by Rollins thanks to a Pedigree but Owens ends up getting the last laugh destroying Rollins and Reigns with a steel chair. The final blow came with Owens Powerbombing Reigns through the Raw announce table to close the show.

Overall I really enjoyed this Raw. Each match had a purpose and they all delivered decent to great performances. Give it a watch.
