SmackDown Live! Recap - 11/1/16

SmackDown is live tonight from Newark, NJ. Is Dean Ambrose planning to kill James Ellsworth for costing him a shot at the WWE Championship?

James Ellsworth starts SmackDown Live coming down to the ring to apologize to Dean Ambrose for costing him a shot at AJ Styles and the WWE Championship. Ambrose tells Ellsworth he doesn't need to apologize but if he ever gets in Dean's way he may have to pay for it. WWE Champion AJ Styles to tell James he doesn't owe Dean anything, in fact he owes AJ. He owes AJ his entire career. AJ was going to take it easy on James during their last encounter but according to Styles Dean was egging him on to hit James harder. Ambrose and Styles go nose to nose before Ellsworth gets in the middle in an attempt to break things up. AJ pushes Ellsworth into Ambrose then hits him with a kick. After dumping Ellsworth to the outside Styles hits Ambrose with the Phenomenal Forearm.

After the break Daniel Bryan informs Ambrose that he will face AJ Styles once again with a chance to be number one contender. However no matter the outcome this is Ambrose's final chance at the gold. By the way, James Ellsworth is banned from ringside.

Randy Orton vs. Kane in a No DQ Match

This was probably the fastest NO DQ match I've ever seen. Within two minutes Luke Harper and Bray Wyatt show up. The distraction allow Orton to hit the RKO on Kane for the win. After the match Harper hits Kane with a Discus Lariat. Harper was about to pass off Kane to Bray for Sister Abigail but Orton steps in and passes Kane off himself. All three men pose in the ring before going to commercial break.

Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella vs. Carmella and Alexa Bliss

Fun short tag match with Alexa Bliss pinning the SD Women's Champion Becky Lynch after a DDT.

American Alpha vs. Spirit Squad

Another quick match saw American Alpha win with Grand Amplitude and with the win they go on to join Hype Bros, Rhyno and Heath Slater in the SD Tag Teams going up against RAW Tag Teams at Survivor Series.

Probably nothing major but they did air a highlight video for the Heyman/Goldberg confrontation last night on Raw. Keep the shows separate! It adds to allure of brand competition.

MizTV time! His guest Daniel Bryan comes on the show to deliver a big announcement. The SD Team going up against RAW at Survivor Series will be Randy Orton, Baron Corbin, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, and WWE Champion AJ Styles! This obviously doesn't sit well with Miz who's humiliated for thinking he was a shoe in for the team. Both men get into a verbal spat, Miz says Daniel should go back to moping around Joh Cena's house while Daniel says Miz certainly is not a good wrestler. The reason Miz was not selected for the SD Survivor Series team is because he is too afraid to fight as evident last week when he backed down from Dolph Ziggler. Since Dolph is a fighting champion there is an open challenge to face him for the Intercontinental Championship.

The man who bravely answers the challenge is Curt Hawkins. I wish I could say it was a valiant effort but as soon as the bell rang Hawkins turned into a superkick and lost.

The Usos defeated The Headbangers in another 3 minute bout. Seriously, what's with all of these quick matches?

Ambrose makes sure James Ellsworth can't get involved in tonight's match by booting him out of the arena.

AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose - If Ambrose wins he is #1 Contender for the WWE Championship

This wasn't as quick as the other matches tonight but it did move at a very quick pace. Ambrose and Styles countered each other a ton which was fun to see. What the hell? James Ellsworth comes through the crowd and is now at ringside cheering on Dean Ambrose! The slight distraction almost costs Ambrose again. Security comes sprinting down to the ring but Ellsworth slips away like a bandit. The match continues when once again makes his way down to the ring but this time his distraction is a benefit to Ambrose as Styles takes his eye off the prize and gets hit with Dirty Deeds. 1...2...3! Dean Ambrose is the #1 contender for the WWE Championship. The show closes with James Ellsworth getting whisked away by security.
