SmackDown Live Rapid Recap - 8/16/16; Poor Heath Slater

We are just five days away from SummerSlam!

SmackDown kicked off with a Miz TV segment involving Dolph Ziggler and WWE Champion Dean Ambrose. Although this was another face to face encounter I could watch these two cut promos on each other all day. Dolph has a serious chip on his shoulder which Dean easily pointed out. He feels like he has all these haters doubting him and Dean sort of fuels that fire by getting under his skin saying he will prove those doubters correct. Great use of psychology between two faces. Dolph catches Dean with a wicked Superkick mid promo. Kinda funny.

American Alpha, Hype Bros, and The Usos defeated the Vaudevillians, The Ascension, and Breezango

Naomi has this crazy new entrance where she looks like she's dancing at an EDM concert tripping off way too much acid. It was awesome. Oh, Eva Marie got stuck in traffic so she couldn't make it for her match.

So just last night Heath Slater got his ass handed to him and his kids disrespected by Brock Lesnar. So naturally tonight he gets his ass handed to him by Randy Orton. It was so bad the ref stopped the match. Randy mocked Lesnar (why would you do that?) by dropping Heath with a couple of suplexes then an RKO. Later in the medical room Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon planned to give Heath a SmackDown exclusive contract but he was so out of it he confused Daniel for RAW GM Mick Foley and Shane for his sister Stephanie. Poor guy. Poor kids! (...that Brock Lesnar doesn't give a sh*t about)

Dean Ambrose defeated Erick Rowan. As Bray and Erick made their way down to the ring they crossed paths with Randy Orton who wasn't done celebrating his destruction of Heath Slater. After Erick took the loss Bray left him hanging back in the ring almost in disgust. Maybe some foreshadowing? Hmmm....

The main event for tonight's show was a pretty solid match between Alberto Del Rio and John Cena. Obviously Cena came out as the victor but Del Rio made Cena work for the win. After the match Styles, who was on commentary, attacked Cena with a Phenomenal Forearm. Instead of leaving on top Styles gets greedy and goes back looking to hit the Styles Clash. Cena counters and hits an AA. Then for good measure he sends Styles crashing through the announcer's table! Pretty good way to end the show, I'm excited for SummerSlam.
