RAW Rapid Recap - 8/29/16; A New Champion Crowned

Tonight a new Universal Champion will be crowned in a Fatal 4 Way Elimination Match between Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, and Big Cass.

Raw kicks off with all four participants of tonight's Fatal 4 Way match to crown a new Universal Champion. Seth Rollins was nice enough to give his mic time to the other Superstars which is something I'm sure he regretted. Kevin Owens really shone bright in this segment and came across as the man with the most confidence going into this match. Big Cass acknowledged that he was the least favorite to win the match but to him he is the "biggest dog in the fight." That got a chuckle from Roman Reigns and when asked to comment, he just incited a brawl.

Chris Jericho and Neville had a very competitive match. Jericho used a lot of old school heel tactics like asking for a time out and hiding behind the official which was fun to see. Neville as usual had a great showing with some beautiful high flying offense. His offense honestly makes him one of the most underrated members of the roster. We all know what he can do in the air but his striking makes him so well rounded. Jericho catches Neville in the Walls of Jericho and Neville has no choice but to tap. Again, great match.

Nia Jax destroyed another jobber!

Sami Zayn defeated Jinder Mahal. Nothing really special but the match focused heavily on Sami's injured ankle. Despite a bummed ankle Sami was able to get the win with the Helluva Kick.

Fun 6 person mixed tag match between The New Day and Bayley versus Gallows, Anderson, and Dana Brooke. Again fun match thanks to the good guys.

Sheamus and Cesaro had their second bout in their best of seven series. As you would expect this match was very physical on both sides. Good sequence of near falls. The closing came on the outside, Cesaro coming in with a full head of steam when Sheamus counters and back drops Cesaro into the ring post. Definitely looked like it hurt and Cesaro looks to be in a lot of pain. Sheamus sees his window of opportunity to go 2-0 grow wider and slaps on a Cloverleaf submission. Cesaro taps quickly and Sheamus goes up 2-0 in this best of seven. Foley has promised the winner a feature championship shot so the stakes are definitely higher.

WWE played a wonderful tribute to Mr. Fuji who passed away over the weekend at the age of 82.

Time for my favorite part of Monday Night Raw, Braun Strowman destroys a jobber! This week we have the 5'0 Americo who looked like a bad mix of Max Moon and Aldo Montoya. Anyway Braun nearly caved this guy's chest in by launching him in the air and slamming him down almost like, as Corey Graves put it, an alley oop to himself. Amazing.

Stephanie McMahon confronted Paul Heyman demanding an apology for Brock Lesnar attacking Shane McMahon at SummerSlam. Heyman patronizes Stephanie by counting out Lesnar's $500 fine in ones which did not sit well with Stephanie. Things get sort of confusing with Heyman saying he and Lesnar know that although this whole ordeal puts Stephanie in a tough position with the heads of WWE, she is the heir to the WWE fortune. So is Heyman simply kissing ass to avoid further punishment? Was Lesnar's attack on Shane a part of a bigger con? Hmm.....something is fishy.

Titus O'Neil and Darren Young had another match in their ongoing rivalry. This one kind of fell flat. Titus dominated nearly the entire match however Darren wins on a wonky rollup that got no reaction from the crowd. Titus attacks Darren and his mentor Bob Backlund while they were celebrating.

Main Event: Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins vs. Big Cass in a Fatal 4 Way Elimination Match for the Universal Championship

The opening sequences of the match saw some great stuff from everyone but especially Big Cass. Obviously he is the least expected to win but he sure is making his impact in this match. Not many men would be willing to stand toe to toe with Roman but Big Cass was definitely up to the task. He blocks Roman's Superman Punch and hits him with a boot to send him to the outside. Rollins hits a suicide dive but then gets dropped by KO. Roman flies over the top with a dive and everyone is wiped out!

Big Cass was doing so well in the match that the other competitors had no choice but to put all of their offensive focus on him. He had the match well in hand wiping out Reigns with a boot to leave him to handle Owens and Rollins. As he is about to drop Seth Roman comes in with a Superman Punch right on Big Cass' jaw. He drops to a knee and Rollins hit a superkick. Rollins only gets a nearfall but Owens comes off the top with a frog splash to eliminate Big Cass.

Coming back from commercial Rollins and Reigns just went to work with back and forth strikes, counters to finishers, nearfalls, the whole package. Just when you forget Owens is a part of this bout he comes in and takes over the whole thing. Action spills to the outside and out of nowhere Triple H appears and Pedigree's Roman on the outside! He rolls Roman and Rollins back in the ring making sure Rollins comes to in the process. Rollins covers Reigns to eliminate him. Triple H rolls Kevin Owens back in the ring and looks as though The Authority has reunited and Rollins has this one in the bag. Suddenly Triple H kicks the gut of Rollins, nods to KO, and hits Rollins with the Pedigree!! Owens looks stunned in shock and when he finally realizes what is happening he covers Rollins. 1...2...3!

Kevin Owens is your new Universal Champion! Triple H yanks the title from a pissed off Foley and presents it to Owens. Triple H raises the hand of Owens before exiting the ring to glare down Foley. Even Stephanie looks confused and shocked. Triple H exits through the crowd while the crowd chants "You deserve it! for the new Universal Champion Kevin Owens. What a moment to close the show.
