WWE Extreme Rules 2016 Preview and Predictions

Erik gives you his thoughts on the build up to Sunday's Extreme Rules PPV on the WWE Network as well as predictions for each advertised match. Have a prediction? Make sure to cast your vote in the Twitter Poll for each match.

Extreme Rules Kickoff Show: Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin (No Disqualification Match)

Since debuting at WrestleMania and winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal Baron Corbin has looked pretty solid, holding his own on the main roster. Even with emphasis on a new era and attitude in the WWE Dolph Ziggler can't seem to get out of whatever rut that has relegated him to the back of the line used to make the NXT call up look good. I will say that this feud certainly has sparked my interest in Ziggler and has made me believe that Corbin is in fact ready for the big stage.

Prediction: This should be a fun one to watch. I expect Ziggler to use a kendo stick and try and chop down the taller Corbin however Ziggler will make a mistake and fall victim to the End of Days. Winner: Baron Corbin

Kalisto (c) vs. Rusev for the United States CHampionship

Rusev attacking Kalisto during his match with Del Rio was savage and an excellent way to reestablish Rusev as a credible monster heel after he had regressed as a member of the League of Nations. He bent Kalisto like a paper clip. It was rough.

Prediction: They're definitely going to play up the David vs. Goliath vibe of this match. Rusev definitely makes the US Championship seem way more interesting than Kalisto has. Not his fault when he was stuck working with the Pre-Showstopper Ryback. Winner: Rusev

The New Day (c) vs. The Vaudevillains for WWE Tag Team Championship

My biggest fear when it came to the Vaudevillains getting called up was they were going to get booked in a way where people weren't going to look passed their hokey gimmick and not see them as a threat. That certainly has not been the case. Lets hope Gotch isn't launching dudes to the outside in this match.

Prediction: The New Day is entertaining there's no doubt about that. So entertaining in fact that I don't think people fully grasp how good their work in the ring really is. Doesn't matter if it's Woods or Kingston, Big E is the perfect compliment to either. Vaudevillains have been great as well, let's hope Enzo is cleared and they can renew that feud. Winner: The New Day

The Usos vs. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows in a Tornado Tag Match

It's been awhile since we've seen a Tornado Tag Match in WWE. For those not familiar with the stipulation basically there's no need for tags, it's all out pandemonium. This match is perfectly suited for The Usos and I'm sure Anderson and Gallows will have great showings as well.

Prediction: Although this fresh feud between The Bloodline and The Club has been entertaining I think WWE Creative is not looking to milk something. They'll blow off something even while it's good to not risk ruining plans in the long run. Plus I have a hunch that Anderson and Gallows are going to play a bigger part in the night's main event. Winners: The Club

Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho in an Asylum Match

An Asylum Match is basically a cage match with weapons hanging around the top of the cage. Typically in cage match you can win if you escape using the door to enter the cage. Not in this match. I'm not sure if pin or submission gets you a win but I do know if you manage to exit via climbing to the top and over down to the floor you win. After seeing weapons being used on SmackDown I have to say I'm intrigued.

Prediction: They wouldn't have Ambrose lose the first match using his supposed invention would they? Winner: Dean Ambrose

The Miz (c) vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn vs. Cesaro for the Intercontinental Championship

This match no doubt will be one of the better matches of the night. All four men have an intertwined history with each other with Zayn and Owens having the most despised hatred for each other out of the group. I can't wait.

Prediction: With the addition of his real life wife Maryse, Miz has actually got me invested in him as champion. Sadly I don't think it will be enough for him to keep the title. I think the IC Title will be a focal point in the continuation of the Zayn/Owens feud. Winner: Kevin Owens

Charlotte vs. Natalya for the Women's Championship - Ric Flair is banned from Ringside

How good has Charlotte been since WrestleMania? This match should no doubt be solid and no funny business with Flair (hopefully). So does this mean Natalya, the grizzled veteran of the Women's Division, will get her time to shine with the title? Does Charlotte have other dirty tricks up her sleeve? Is there a certain boss waiting in the shadows to pounce and steal the throne from everyone?

Prediction: As much as I love Natalya, Charlotte is just too good right now and she has many more good matches in her with the likes of Lynch, Banks, and others. Winner: Charlotte

Main Event: Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles in an Extreme Rules Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Nothing epitomizes the new era of WWE more than the wrestling journeyman AJ Styles finally finding his way to WWE to take on the chosen face Roman Reigns. While fans still boo Reigns (for whatever reason) he has gotten better and better. He is finally going in the direction I saw fit for him since the beginning, not a lot of talk but a whole lot of action. He can get the WWE what they want so long as they don't try and force him to get over with the crowd with corny liners.

Prediction: AJ may have had a shot to win this thing but with reports of various injuries weighing him down I don't see WWE risking putting the title on someone who may not be able to hold it for an extended period of time. Winner: Roman Reigns

Overall I think this will be another solid special from WWE. They've got me with this new era stuff and every match of this card has an interesting backstory to it to couple it with what should be solid wrestling. What do you think? Comment below or reach out to us on social media!:
