HobosGhost's Scavenger Hunt - First of 2016!

Hello everyone I hope you had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year! It's back to business as I, Simon K AKA HobosGhost on Twitter, return to bring you the first Scavenger Hunt of 2016!

Last year was good as viewings went up so welcome all the regular viewers and any new hunters! Each week I compile five clips from the history of wrestling for you to have a look at. Whether it's from WWE, NJPW, ROH or any of the 100's of promotions past and present, nothing is out of bounds! The good, the bad, and the very ugly make it every week in the Scavenger Hunt!

Without further delay let's begin!

WCW
2nd May 1996
WCW Cruiserweight Championship Match
Shinjiro Otani vs Dean Malenko

Kicking off the first Hunt of 2016 is a trip back to WCW Worldwide from 1996 as Dean Malenko challenges Japanese star Shinjiro Otani for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship!

Otani was the first ever WCW Cruiserweight Champion defeating Wild Pegasus (Chris Benoit) at the NJPW Hyper Battle Tag 9 event on 20th March 1996. Ohtani went over to USA to defend the title in this match against Dean Malenko who had been working with NJPW on tours from 1992-1997 and briefly in 1999 as part of WCW's relationship with NJPW.

A really good TV match from WCW Worldwide!

WWWF/WWE
18th March 1978
Dusty Rhodes vs Baron Mikel Scicluna

To 1978 for WWWF Championship Wrestling as Baron Mikel Scicluna faces "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes!

Dusty Rhodes had started working for NWA back in 1968. Before debuting in WWE in 1977 he was working for various NWA territories as well as AWA, AJPW in Japan and Georgia Championship Wrestling. WWE had left the NWA in 1963 but had quietly rejoined in 1971. It wasn't until 1983 that WWE left the NWA for good. After making appearances between 1977-1988, Dusty was signed to a WWE contract and wrestled exclusively until the Royal Rumble on 19th January 1991. He teamed with Dustin Rhodes in a defeat to Ted Dibiase and Virgil.

An early appearance from the late Dusty Rhodes in the WWE!

NWA Pro Wrestling
7th July 2007
Steel Cage Tag Team Match
Los Luchas vs Karl Anderson/Joey Ryan

With rumors that members of The Bullet Club are on way to WWE here we have Karl Anderson teaming with Joey Ryan in a Cage match for NWA!

Karl Anderson was the NWA Heartland States Heavyweight Champion and the EWF American Champion at the time of this cage match. The day after this match Ryan and Anderson would win the vacant NWA World Tag Team Championships which had been vacant since the Dudley Boys held the titles while in TNA due to the partnership between TNA and NWA. The titles were vacant for 56 days. Ryan/Anderson won a triple threat elimination for the belts. They held the titles for 217 days until 10th February 2008 when they lost the titles to Los Luchas.

Los Luchas were in the hunt to crown the first GFW Tag Champions but lost to RENO Scum in the quarter finals.
Steel cage tag team war in NWA!

Bellatrix 8
2nd March 2014
Bellatrix World Championship Match
Courtney Rush vs Liberty

British promotion Bellatrix action now as Canadian Courtney Rush defends the World Championship against young British talent Liberty!

Liberty is 22 years old from Happisburgh, Norfolk in England and was trained by the Knight family (Paige from WWE's family). Liberty made her North American debut in 2015 first appearing for SHINE 30 in a fatal four way then on all three SHIMMER recordings over two days. In all she won one match and lost the other three.

Liberty is a former WAWW Champion where she defeated Britani Knight (Paige) aged just 18 years old. She has also held the RQW European Women's Championship, the Bellatrix British Championship and the Bellatrix World Championship (all Bellatrix Championships making Liberty a triple crown winner). WAWW was Saraya Knight's company until 2012 when it became Bellatrix.
Bellatrix is becoming a top women's organisation here in England bringing talent from around the world. Great contest here!

And Finally...

Stampede Wrestling
July 1987
North American Heavyweight Championship Match
Owen Hart vs Bad News Allen

We conclude with Stampede action as Owen Hart does battle with Bad News Allen! Not the full match as seemed to be the case with a lot of Stampede footage but Owen and Allen put on a pretty good contest in front of a passionate crowd. This was Owen Hart's second reign as Stampede North American Heavyweight Champion. He defeated Makhan Singh (Bastian Booger in WWE) who interferes in this match on both occasions that Owen won the title. It would be Singh who would defeat Owen to begin his third reign as champ. Bad New Allen was a third time holder of the title.

Rather brutal looking moment right at the end as Owen's head is drilled into the corner post. Stampede action ends the Hunt for this week!

That concludes this week's Scavenger Hunt! All previous editions are still available for free here on TWC! Hope you will come back again every Friday for more editions!

From me, Simon K (@HobosGhost) I bid you good day and thanks for stopping by!
