NXT Review - 5/13/15

Here is a review of the 5/13/15 edition of NXT on the WWE Network, just one week away from NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable.

The show opens up with Sami Zayn's appearance on Monday Night Raw answering John Cena's open challenge for the United States Title. The video was brilliantly done because it showcased some high moments in the match before getting to the part where Zayn suffered an injury. If you remember watching the match live on Monday you would remember that the injury occurred within a few minutes after the bell. The injury to Zayn's shoulder revealed he may be out of action for a few months which obviously puts his quest for the NXT Title on hold.

The show kicks off with Solomon Crowe who has a new theme thankfully. Tonight he has the unenviable task of taking on Baron Corbin. Crowe starts offense off quick catching Corbin off guard but out of nowhere Corbin turns Crowe inside out with a clothesline. The match quickly turned into a mugging, a methodical mugging. The crowd grows tired and starts chanting "Baron's Gonna Bore You" and at first glance it sort of looks like Corbin is playing part of a heel. If this is the case it is super smart. Corbin could do well as a silent assassin heel. Crowe does get some impressive offense in, enough to not make this look one sided. He looks to execute a springboard maneuver from the outside in to the ring but Corbin catches him and hits him with The End of Days. Quick but effective match.

As Corbin is basking in victory in the ring he is interrupted by Rhyno who challenges Corbin for a match at next week's NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable. The two start scraping in the ring causing the locker room to empty. Even with officials and talent holding the two back they were still going at it! Corbin finally exits the ring and Ryhno goes on a warpath and gores two guys. That certainly peaked my interest for their match next week.

Sasha Banks makes her way down to the ring for to next match. Had to brush off the ol Google ninja skills to learn her unnamed opponent is Cassie McIntosh. Before the bell Sasha cuts a promo on her opponent at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable Becky Lynch. Sasha says she is the one who made Becky Lynch. The match was another fairly quick one. Mostly all Banks who wins with the Banks Statement.

Backstage Devin Taylor asks Charlotte who's with Bayley what her thoughts were on newcomer Dana Brooke. Charlotte says Dana is just jealous TapOut chose Charlotte to be in the campaign and not her. Bayley high jacks the interview to air her grievances against her former friend turned kleptomaniac Emma. Guess what? Charlotte and Bayley will be at Unstoppable, will Dana Brooke and Emma be there?

We get another video package on Sesugh Uhaa (not his in ring name which hasn't been announced yet). Same video except this one has an appearance from Solomon Crowe. If you'd like to see what Uhaa is all about, check out our piece on him here.

Back to the ring for more Divas action this time we have Carmella taking on Alexa Bliss. During the match the NXT Tag Team Champions Blake and Murphy make their way ringside as obvious distraction to Carmella. The distraction pays off as Alexa Bliss capitalizes and hits this awkward side splash for the win.

After the match Blake and Murphy tell Carmella when you hang out with trash like Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, their opponents at Unstoppable, you start to smell like garbage. Carmella furiously guarantees her boys will win the NXT Tag Titles. Blake and Murphy, they're S-A-W-F-T. Carmella nailed this promo.

Backstage Emma and Dana Brooke accept Charlotte and Bayley's challenge at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable.

Back at ringside with Adam Rose and Tyler Breeze taking on Hideo Itami and Finn Balor. Breeze, Itami, and Balor will be taking on each other in a triple threat #1 contender match at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable. Rose and Breeze do a fantastic job of isolating Balor whose tag in was a little sketchy if I say so myself. Adam Rose really had a great showing in this match. He and Breeze really looked like a solid tag team. Once Itami gets the tag he lights the ring on fire with a series of kicks and strikes. Just when it looks like he has the match well in hand when Balor blind tags himself in. He hits Rose with the Slingblade and looks to set up Breeze for the Coup de Grace. As soon as he's about to jump Itami tags himself in. He goes in for the attack but Breeze rolls him up for the one two three! Balor and Itami begin arguing in the ring as to who's fault it was that they lost the match. Sly Tyler Breeze enters the ring and hits Itami with a superkick then hits Balor with the Beauty Shot. Adam Rose enters the ring to celebrate with his partner when out of nowhere Breeze superkicks Rose! I Guess Tyler Breeze doesn't enjoy group selfies.

Sami Zayn updates NXT on his condition following his match with John Cena on Raw. He explains the moment he felt something went wrong but also what it was like to wrestle on a big stage in front of his hometown. So far he says he's ready for Kevin's Owens at Unstoppable, we'll see how the face to face segment goes...

Sami Zayn makes his way down to the ring first followed by NXT Champion Kevin Owens. Bottom line Zayn wants to know why Owens fought Zayn in such brutal fashion. Was Owens jealous? Was he jealous that Owens' son favors Sami over his own father? At this point Owens is obviously angry. He exits the ring without saying a word. As Owens makes his way up the ramp Zayn grows furious. With his back turned Owens says he knows he hurt Sami, he knows Sami is still hurt, and he knows exactly where Sami is hurt. Owens says at TakeOver he will do it again but this time Sami isn't coming back. That is how the show ends folks.
