WWE Extreme Rules Preview and Predictions

Extreme Rules is this Sunday (4/26/15) and can be seen live on the WWE Network at 8pm EST. The following is a quick run down of each match and who our Editor Erik thinks will come out on top.

Kickoff Show: Cesaro and Kidd (c) vs. The New Day for the WWE Tag Team Championship

I am really looking forward to this match. Of course Cesaro and Kidd have been a great tag team and I'm starting to come around accidental resurgence of The New Day. Here is why I like The New Day, it started out as super cheesy and too forced on the fans. No matter how invested the trio was into this thing it just was not going to get over with the fans. Finally as if caving into the negative reaction, WWE has eased in to a different New Day. A charismatic New Day that is completely oblivious as to how annoying they actually are. Anything too obvious they just brush off as people just don't understand. That and they just do things to make people mad case in point their #1 contender victory this past Monday on Raw. Should be exciting.

Prediction: I'm going with Cesaro and Kidd with this one. I'd like to see them develop a feud with the Lucha Dragons, that's where I think the real money is.

Main Show

Dean Ambrose vs. Luke Harper in a Chicago Street Fight

This, much like the tag match on the Kickoff Show, should be a fun one. You have two guys who just love beating the hell out of people and are pretty good at taking a beating. I usually hate the No DQ, Falls Count Anywhere based matches. Too much boring down time as competitors walk through fans and concession areas. This however I feel won't be the case. Ambrose thrives on these types of matches and usually does well. I wonder if Ambrose is just a one trick pony? By that I mean only looking good in these style of matches. Harper is definitely multi-dimensional. He can go out there and have great wrestling matches with a guy like Ziggler and have great smashmouth style matches like this one should be Sunday.

Prediction: This one can really go either way. One thing to look at is if you give Harper the loss it does no damage to him really. Give the loss to Ambrose and whatever baggage is left on his bandwagon will most certainly begin to bail just like all the rest have. Seriously, Ambrose went from being talked about as the potential breakout star of The Shield to just being...a dude. I'm going out on a limb here and say Ambrose gets the win because he sure does need it.

Nikki Bella (c) vs. Naomi for the WWE Divas Championship

Ah the curious case of the Divas Division. It seems like WWE is trying to do right by it's ladies by giving them more time in the ring to show what they can do. The division took a huge blow in my opinion losing someone like AJ Lee who at least made the division compelling by her natural hatred of it's state. As bad as the storytelling has been the quality of work with Paige, (I still don't know why she isn't in this match after winning that battle royale) The Bellas, and Naomi has improved. The ladies should be able to a decent contest at least.

Prediction: I say Nikki goes on to continue her dominance over the division. Or possibly Naomi squeezes out a victory setting up a decent feud between her and Paige. Who knows?

Roman Reigns vs. Big Show in a Last Man Standing Match

No matter which way you spin it, if Reigns' first match after main eventing WrestleMania is against the Big Show, it is not a good thing. I have tons of respect for Big Show. He is without a doubt one of the greatest big men in the history of professional wrestling. With that said a match with an equally as boring Roman Reigns doesn't scream exciting to me. Roman doesn't get away with no blame either. It's the same with him. Same speech, same moves, same setup, same look since The Shield. There's no substance with the guy.

Prediction: My prediction is that I may be the last man standing when this one is said and done. I'll be snoring into my recliner before the referee even gets to 10.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus in a Kiss Me Arse Match

You know who loves the idea of this match? This guy:

This new and somewhat improved Sheamus is out to prove that he is the last real man left in the WWE. What better way to prove that by beating a guy and then making him kiss your ass?! In a ring! In front of millions! In 2015! Seriously folks, chalk this one up to "Embarrassing Reasons Why I Don't Tell My Friends I Watch Wrestling".

Prediction: Ugh.

Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Bad News Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship

This match if after Sheamus/Ziggler should wash away any guilt about being a wrestling fan...if it happens. I think it's going to happen. If it does I'm sure it will be great match.

Prediction: This is where the real story is. I don't see Bryan losing the title. He's the perfect guy to use if you want to make the IC Title look legit. If he so happens to lose the title to Barrett it may be that he is injured like we're being led to believe.

John Cena (c) vs. Rusev in a Russian Chain Match for the United States Championship

Here's another match I am strangely looking forward to. I have no idea why they couldn't just call it a chain match, most likely another McMahon micro-managing detail. Either way it is very old school, to win you have to touch each corner turnbuckle while attached to your opponent by a steel chain. Cena is where is because he makes others look good and Rusev is no exception.

Prediction: I see Cena winning here. The idea behind his weekly US Title Challenge seems to be a hit with both the typical WWE fan and the Internet wrestling fans. It has even turned out some great contests in the first quarter of 2015. If Rusev wins where do you go with both he and Cena from then on?

Seth Rollins (c) vs. Randy Orton in a Steel Cage Match with the RKO Banned for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

This is a solid main event coming off WrestleMania in what could be looked at as a transitional period in WWE. I was a huge fan of Orton vs. Rollins at Mania so this one should be good when you add a cage to it. I'm not a fan of banning the RKO especially with it being as hot as it is right now.

Prediction: Something really crazy is going to have to go down in order for Orton to walk away as champion in this one, everyone knows that. I guess with this one we're all just looking forward to the actual match. That it itself is good enough for me. This at best could be a huge match in the title reign of Rollins that being his first defense.
