SummerSlam Predictions

Erik takes a look at this Sunday's SummerSlam Pay Per View and gives you his predictions as to who will come out on top from the event.

This Sunday's SummerSlam PPV will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It will be the sixth year in a row the event will be held in the same venue. Lets look at the match card shall we?

AJ Lee (c) vs. Paige (Divas Championship Match)

What to watch for: If I remember correctly this is the first time both ladies have faced each other without it being a surprise. No one is waiting for a screwy finish much like their last encounters so it will be interesting to see if both ladies have chemistry in the ring together.

Who will win: I still believe WWE is not sold on Paige as a big time name for the Divas Division. While this may not be a popular judgement in the eyes of the fans I'm sure WWE is just giving Paige time to grow. I would like to see her step away from the title scene but to continue to play a heel character. She seems a lot more comfortable playing that role. The good thing about being comfortable in a new role is Paige does not need the title right now. We know she can wrestle, she just needs to connect more and show fans she is more than a good wrestler. I say AJ wins.

The Miz (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler (Intercontinental Championship)

What to watch for: It is no secret I am not too big of The Miz. With that said some of his best matches have been against Dolph Ziggler. Unlike the match above where we should look for chemistry, we know Dolph and Miz already have it. I'm sure this will be a good match.

Who will win: Of course I want Dolph to win, I am certainly not alone. However my head tells me WWE thinks the are onto something with Miz's new cocky movie star gimmick. If Miz does win I understand. I want Dolph to win, but if the status of the Intercontinental Championship does not change what does it matter? If Miz wins you have direction. If Dolph wins, what is next? Miz wins.

Jack Swagger vs. Rusev (Flag Match)

What to watch for: I grew up during the mid 80's-90's boom of wrestling so the appeal of this match for me is the old school feel. A foreign enemy infiltrating the WWE and being met with resistance from a proud American is a time tested tradition in pro wrestling. Adding on to the appeal is we are still in the beginning phases of Swagger's run as a face and it was a perfect time to freshen up he and Zeb Colter's character. Plus how long has it been since we have seen a Flag Match?

Who will win: I am putting all my chips in for Swagger to take the W. A loss for Rusev won't hurt him as he is still relatively new and his appeal is he comes in and destroys people. Continue on that path and fans will forget about a loss.

Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins

What to watch for: After traveling together for the better part of two years together as a team, it will be interesting to see how that factors into them facing each other.

Who will win: It would hard to think of Rollins who is the MITB briefcase holder and is aligned with The Authority coming out as a loser. Rollins wins.

Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton

What to watch for: The man WWE sees as the future versus the man who has consistently lived up to being the guard of WWE even when the brightness of Cena's t-shirts is almost blinding. Very interesting. The only risk I see in this match is rest holds, lots of rest holds.

Who will win: To me this is a toss up. Orton should not lose and if he does it makes him look weak thus making The Authority, who he is aligned with, look weak. On the other hand if Reigns is being looked at as the next big thing could a loss to who I consider a cornerstone in the WWE stagger Reigns momentum? Either way I'll shrug my shoulders. Randy's direction is nonexistent and I'm not sold on Reigns outside of his Superman Punch, Spear, and nice hair.

Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt

What to watch for: Just watch. This is going to be fun. There may never be another like Chris Jericho. He ha been in the world of pro wrestling for so long and still can go like a rookie. When it comes to Bray Wyatt you are getting someone who consistently makes you PAY ATTENTION. In a world of tweets, hashtags, and general distractions Wyatt makes you look until he says you can look away. That is power. Just watch.

Who will win: Bray Wyatt. I understood why Jericho won the last encounter. Again, that was another instance where a loss did not hurt Wyatt. This should be another fun match.

Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon

What to watch for: This is the match I am most looking forward to seeing and that is the craziest thing I have ever said. This match is proof that WWE can make anything interesting if they give a damn about it.

Who will win: Stephanie McMahon. Did you see those Pedigrees?!

John Cena (c) vs. Brock Lesnar (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

What to watch for: Somebody may die. At least that is how they are making it out to be. And that is how you sell a Pay Per View main event. One of my favorite things about this match is something JR pointed out on Twitter: Brock is a lot like the old school heel monsters who come in, go one a rampage, and leave before they get stale. How crazy is it that this tactic works right now?

Who will win: We all see Brock Lesnar winning. But in this case knowing the winner is not a bad thing. Looking on the other side of the picture, does WWE really want to put the title on someone who is not going to commit to WWE like John Cena? Maybe Cena wins, then Rollins cashes in??
