Smackdown Results - 3/29/13

Below is a recap of the 3/29/13 edition of Friday Night Smackdown.

Matches:

Chris Jericho def. Wade Barrett
Daniel Bryan and Kaitlyn def. Dolph Ziggler and AJ
Jack Swagger and The Great Khali ended in double count out
Sheamus, Randy Orton, and Big Show def. Team Rhodes Scholars and Antonio Cesaro

The show kicks off with WWE Champion The Rock making a special appearance on Smackdown. The Rock reminisces his days as a teenager living in PA and he hypes up his match with John Cena at Wrestlemania. He gets interrupted by former Raw and Smackdown GM Big Johnny! Johnny Ace Laurunitas or however you spell his name. Big Johnny tells The Rock that he and Rocky have a common enemy: John Cena. Big Johnny purposes he be in the corner of The Rock. Now, huge surprise here, Rock actually isn't too fond of the idea. He cons Big Johnny into a handshake that turned into a spine buster than a People's Elbow. That's all the People Power we're getting tonight folks.

Chris Jericho comes down to the ring for his match against Wade Barrett. The Miz joins commentary and takes the opportunity to scout his Wrestlemania opponent. Chris Jericho continues his hot streak of great matches. Solid, well paced, balanced match. Barrett and Miz get into a shouting match on the outside. When Wade re-enters the ring Jericho hit the Codebreaker and got the win. After the match Jericho says he's not going to savor the victory because he knows Fandango is just going to interrupt him. Jericho does another classic bit making fun of Fandango's name when finally he comes out to the ring. Jericho cuts him off on the apron and Fandango chooses not to get in. He walks up the ramp and does a little dance number.

We get an interview with Paul Heyman who talks about Brock Lesnar's match against Triple H. He talks about what Triple H is going to go through after he is forced to retire. It's really good stuff. Heyman paints a picture of what he thinks Triple H will go through when he is forced to retire.

Next up is the weight lifting competition between Ryback and Mark Henry. Henry shatters a World Record with 53 reps of 225 lbs. Ryback was about to beat Henry when on the last rep Henry comes over and drops all of his weight on the bar. He's practically choking Ryback when he finally lets up. He leaves Ryback choking on the ground. Great way to build the story for their match at Wrestlemania.

Next up we have a mix tag match between Dolph Ziggler and AJ against Daniel Bryan and Kaitlyn. This was actually a pretty decent match.

The Shield have another video hyping their match against Randy Orton, Sheamus, and the Big Show.

We have a match between The Great Khali and Jack Swagger. The match ended in a count out due to Jack Swagger having Khali in the Patriot Act on the outside. Hornswoggle tried making the save but gets sent crashing into the barricade. Swagger was about to slap on the Patriot Act when Ricardo interrupts he distracts Swagger and Alberto Del Rio sneaks up from behind and beats down Swagger. On the outside Ricardo hits Zeb with his crutch. He tosses it to ADR who goes to use it on Swagger but he ducks out of the way.

New Broadcast Woman Renee Young is backstage with Sheamus, Randy Orton, and the Big Show. Renee asks Orton if his team is on the same page. He seems to think so and so does Big Show who says Sheamus really was the only one who had an issue. The two get in a little tiff but Orton reels them back in to focus.

Next up is the above mentioned team versus Team Rhodes Scholars and Antonio Cesaro. Pretty awesome match. After the finish all hell broke loose when The Shield thought they were coming down to confront Orton, Sheamus and Show in the ring. The faces turn the tables and head through the crowd and get to The Shield. They beat them down all the way to the top of the arena. The Shield retreat and the faces are left celebrating with the crowd. Pretty cool way to end the show.
