1/28/13 RAW RECAP

One of the great things about this time of the wrestling calendar is after the Royal Rumble while we're on the road to Wrestlemania, is the overall quality of Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown begin to become better because it's time to build up story lines for Wrestlemania.

John Cena made the choice to take on the WWE champion at Wrestlemania whoever that should be after the Elimination Chamber. It was a weird promo which jumped around a lot from Cena wanting to take on CM Punk again, to reliving his battles with The Rock and naming a whole slew of Superstars almost as if dropping story line before it ever intended to be dropped. It was just odd.

Suddenly The Shield comes out of nowhere and begin to lay a beating on Cena. Sheamus comes to make the assist but the numbers game is too much. Then Ryback comes out. He gains the upper hand for bit but again The Shield prove too much sending him crashing into the ring side stairs. Sheamus begins to brawl with Roman Reigns but is sent shoulder first into the ring post. The Shield return to the ring and deliver a triple powerbomb to Cena.

Tonight also marked the return of Chris Jericho to the squared circle. He cut a pretty awesome promo even dropping a few old catchphrases much to the delight of the crowd. Dolph Ziggler, AJ, and Big E Langston made their way to the ring and Ziggler question why Jericho was even there in the first place. Come to find out General Manager Vickie Guerrero signed Jericho to a new contract because she saw it was good for business. She spun the RAW Roulette wheel and it landed on strange bedfellows. That meant instead of Ziggler going up against Jericho, they would have to team together against Team hell No. Jericho looked really good in the ring, nor rust whatsoever.

The third inductee (which was revealed earlier today) into the 2013 Hall of Fame is Trish Stratus.

Tonight we saw a new side of CM Punk. A more intense, angry, and even more focused almost lost without the title on his shoulder. He says he couldn't believe that the title was just taken from him even after he defeated The Rock. This may lead into seeing more of a new side of Punk, a side that could take him to the next level. Later on that night we saw The Rock make his first appearance as WWE Champion. Despite it not being a popular decision to give The Rock the title, in a nostalgic sense you begin to feel like what you felt as a kid when The Rock was a top guy in WWE. For the wrestling purists who prospered in having a voice with Punk as a champion it was just really weird seeing Rock carrying the title. During the Rock's mic time Punk interrupts and further accused Rock of not earning the title. He even goes as far to say that he is the reason that title is now legit and having the Rock hold that title throws away all of his hard work. The two trade further insults and the Rock even calls Punk a "Punk Ass Bitch" and says if he has any ounce of manhood he would step in the ring and try and take the title from him. Punk thinks about but declines the offer and says he has a better idea, 3 weeks from yesterday at Elimination Chamber.

Also the final segment of RAW saw Vince McMahon deliver a performance evaluation of Paul Heyman. During the evaluation it was discovered that Heyman and Punk were indeed behind the attacks on Ryback by the Shield and Brad Maddox. Paul Heyman, almost beside himself believed that someone impersonating him. The entire segment could easily be one of the best segments we've seen on RAW in recent memory. We hope to have video of the whole segment tomorrow becomes recapping it would not do it justice. The highlight was the return of Brock Lesnar and him delivering the F-5 to Vince McMahon. This most likely sets up Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania.

Here's a quick recap of the matches that took place:

Randy Orton def Antonio Cesaro via pinfall. The Miz was a special guest ref who called the match pretty fair but distracted Cesaro enough to cost him the match. He then hit the Skull Crushing Finale on Cesaro.

Ryback vs. the Prime Time Players where PTP and Ryback would have to jokes and the winner would be decided by funniest joke. The outcome doesn't really matter as we saw Ryback hit ShellShock on Titus O'Neill then on Matt Striker for good measure.

Player's Choice Match where Wade Barrett chose to face Bo Dallas, the NXT star who eliminated him from the Royal Rumble last night. Bo Dallas held his own against Barrett and surprisingly (really surprisingly) he picked up a clean win against Barrett. Hopefully this leads to some momentum for the young star.

John Cena def Cody Rhodes

Tensai vs, Brodus Clay in which originally was supposed to be a lingerie pillow fight that was later changed to a dance off. Only one problem, no one told Tensai. It was truly one of the weirdest things I have ever seen on RAW.

Body Slam Challenge which never really happened between Big Show and Alberto Del Rio. Big Show absolutely decimated ADR and when he was dazed Show duct taped ADR's hand to the middle rope. When Ricardo Rodriguez tried coming to the aide of his friend Big Show absolutely decimated Rodriguez in front of a helpless ADR. To add insult to injury Big Show decked ADR with a KO Punch.

Kaitlyn vs Tamina Snuka in a Las Vegas Showgirls match. I honestly don't know happened. One moment they were wrestling than the Lumberjills that surrounded the ring flood it and started fighting with each other.

Sheamus def. Damien Sandow in a very good tables match.

There was  karaoke battle between Zack Ryder and The Great Kahli that was interrupted by 3MB and the rest of it was a nauseating mess.

Team Hell No def. Dolph Ziggler & Chris Jericho
